What is the difference between a polyester and a vinyl shower curtain liner?
Polyester and Nylon shower curtain liners are woven fabrics treated to shed water. These liners are generally soft, drape nicely, are not as heavy as vinyl liners, yet wear nicely. They clean up wonderfully in your washer. Vinyl shower curtain liners are plastic, tend to be stiffer and do not drape as nicely as a polyester liner.
One advantage of a vinyl liner is that it can be cut to a specific length. Some are very light and tear easily. A heavier vinyl will have a longer life. Vinyl shower curtain liners are best cleaned by hand rather than in a washer.
What gauge vinyl liner is the thickest and heaviest?
The thickness of vinyl is measured by gauge. When it comes to plastic, 10 gauge is thicker than 6 gauge. Just remember, a larger number gauge equals thicker and heavier (it's the exact opposite with wire). A hotel quality vinyl liner is generally 10 gauge.
